Downloads slower than expected

Once a torrent is ready, your own connection usually sets the speed. Here's what to check.

Once a torrent is ready, you download it from our servers on a 10 Gbit/s network, so your own connection usually sets the speed.

Check these first

  • Your line: run the speed test. It downloads a test file from the same servers as your links.
  • Units: internet plans count in megabits, browsers in megabytes: 100 Mbit/s is 12.5 MB/s.
  • Wi-Fi: a cable, or getting closer to the router, is often much faster.
  • Connections: a download manager using 4 connections on one file often beats a browser, especially far from our servers.
  • Fair use: past 2 TB in a month, transfers run at 10 MB/s until the 1st. Your Library says so when it happens.
  • Free trial: when the day's free capacity is used up, free downloads wait until the next day.

Still downloading on our side?

While a torrent isn't ready, its speed depends on its peers, not on your line. See Cached torrents.
